Short answer: the best soccer IQ games make kids look and choose under a little time pressure. On the field, that means small-sided games and rondos. On a phone, look for apps that show real game moments from your kid's position and explain the right answer. Ball-mastery apps train feet, not decisions.
Field games that build soccer IQ
- Rondos (3v1, 4v2): keep the ball in a small square with a two-touch limit. Fast, safe choices.
- Small-sided games (3v3, 4v4): more touches and more decisions per minute than a full game.
- Two-goal games: score in whichever small goal is open. Kids must look up to choose.
- Numbers-up games (3v2): teach when to pass and when to dribble.

Apps and phone games
We checked these on the US App Store on 3 Nov 2026. Descriptions are from each store page. Rating counts are what the store showed that day.
- Techne Futbol: a soccer training app with drills designed by pro players and coaches. About 17,100 ratings. Mostly ball work you do with a real ball.
- Train Effective: a digital soccer academy with training sessions. About 13,100 ratings. Mostly physical and technical training.
- The Soccer IntelliGym: says it builds soccer IQ with adaptive cognitive training. 22 ratings.
- FootBrain Soccer IQ: a daily tactical challenge game for players. New, 1 rating.
- Soccer Decision (ours): short game plays from your kid's position (CB, fullback, CM, winger, striker). Look first, pick the pass or run, see why. Plays in the browser on a phone, no download. Parent signs up, kids never type an email. It is new, so we have no public ratings yet.
How to pick one
- Does it train decisions or feet? Both matter. Know which one you are buying.
- Is it built for your kid's position? A center back and a winger face different choices.
- Does it explain why? A right or wrong mark alone teaches little.
- Is it safe for kids? Look for parent-only sign-up and no ads on kid screens.
What about soccer IQ trivia quizzes?
Many "soccer IQ" quizzes test facts about pro teams and players. They are fun for fans but they do not train on-field decisions. For that, see soccer decision making and what soccer IQ is.
